youth olympic weightlifting program

New and experienced lifters from around the region are invited to attend our training camp at Waikato Weightlifting Club over the April school holidays. These training sessions serve to connect youth from across the Waikato - Bay of Plenty region in Weightlifting.

The program will be led by New Zealand representative Coach Gabi Peach.

Levels

Novice

Youth who are very new in weightlifting, with no or little experience, who have not yet competed. Sessions will cover the basics of the snatch, clean & jerk, squats and pulls, with an emphasis on technical progression rather than accumulating training volume. Athletes will be guided at their own pace through progressions.

There is a limit of 8 athletes for these sessions. It is preferred athletes attend both sessions.

The cost of attendance is $30, payable at sign up or upon arrival Wednesday.

Experienced

Youth who are familiar enough with weightlifting to have known personal bests in the snatch, clean & jerk, front squat and back squat. Ideally youth who have already competed, or are intending to compete. Upcoming target events should be the 2023 North Island Championships (June) and/or the 2023 New Zealand Secondary School Championships (September).

Sessions will allow athletes to accumulate quality training in the Olympic lifts and other relevant movements, and receive technical feedback. Athletes will complete the same programme, with minor individual adjustments made to range of movement or rep scheme as necessary.

There is a limit of 12 athletes for these sessions. It is preferred athletes attend all sessions.

The cost of attendance is $45, payable at sign up or upon arrival Tuesday.
